Right now we are all in that season of life where personal goals and new resolutions are standing strong in our mind. With the new year starting we inevitably have the urge to improve upon where we ended last year. Go by any magazine stands and they paint the picture:
"New Year, New Running Record!"
"How To Make A Million Dollars By December"
"Start Now to Make This Year Your Most Productive!"
"Twenty-Eighteen? More like Twenty Lose-That-Weight-teen!"
Blah, blah, blah....
We're a little more laid-back here at Rubbs By Chubbs. So our goals are a little more simple. And we couldn't think of a better way to kick off this years blog with a simple and delicious way to Step Up Your Cheeseburger Game!
Ah, yes. The noble cheeseburger. A proud grill staple that doesn't nearly get enough attention as it should in the world of food nowadays. (Thanks a lot kale and quinoa!) In fact, when most people think about cooking burgers, it's usually preceded by the statement "We're just gonna keep it simple and cook up some..."
When most of us make cheeseburgers, the standard is to get out the American singles. Or maybe "splurge" for sliced cheddar or swiss. By simply switching up your cheese's format you can open up countless options for this classic.
That's right. Shredded cheese!
A while back I just started tinkering with stuff in the fridge. I had some:
Shredded colby jack cheese
Fine grated parmesan Cheese
Bacon Bits
And dried cilantro.
I mixed them all up together creating the dish shown above. Once the burgers started getting close to being done (after thoroughly being Rubb'd of course) I sprinkled the mixture on top of them.
There were a number of benefits to going this route.
This cheese actually melted quicker than sliced cheeses. This prevented the bottom side from getting burnt while waiting for the cheese to melt.
It didn't leave the meal looking so geometric (round burger, square cheese.... boring)
It was more fun to cook with. A sprinkle here and a sprinkle there is way better than just laying down a slice.
It was absolutely delicious and was a good chance to use up stuff I already had in the house!
The options for coming up with shredded cheese blends is unlimited! I'm thinking next time: Mozzarella with diced onion and diced pineapple.
So give this concept a try and see what you think and can come up with! Heck, even share it on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/rubbsbychubbs) or use the hashtag #rubbsbychubbs on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/rubbsbychubbs)!
