Barbe-Tunes!

One of my absolute favorite things in this world is music. In high school, I had a playlist for just about everything: Drivin' - Drivin' in the Desert - Drivin' in the Rain (rarely used) - Beddy Bye Bye Time - Fishin' - and so many more. I may have actually had more playlists that artists on my iPod. In fact one of the greatest compliments I got recently was when a buddy said that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack was basically the background music when riding around with me!

The sweet memories of those playlists came back to me a couple weeks ago. My stepdad and stepbrother were celebrating their shared birthdays. They had an awesome backyard feast (as usual) and through the sounds of people chatting, laughing, beer bottles clinking and meat searing on the grill I heard the faint tunes of yesteryear playing the whole time.

Halfway through the party my stepbrother and I started talking about the tunes. I mean this thing was fully loaded! You had Thin Lizzy, Doobie Brothers, Johnny Cash, Foghat, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pure Prairie League, Allman Brothers, Supertramp and so many more. Half the songs felt like they came from the infamous Fishin' the Salt playlist!

So this got me thinking... just how important are tunes when it comes to a barbecue? Extremely! You need a playlist that keeps the party going, but doesn't overpower it. One where anyone might get the temptation to sing or hum along to the tune. (Better yet, you get someone to randomly air-guitar that is a total win!) And there is something to be said about crafting that playlist yourself.

Sure any music streaming app probably has a station or playlist for barbecues, but to me that is wimping out. If you are going to take the time to cook up a feast for your friends (using Rubbs by Chubbs, right?) you should take the time to make up your own playlist.

So what are some of my "ABSOLUTES" for when making a playlist for some barbe-tunes?

"Down on the Corner" - Creedence Clearwater Revival

"Slow Ride" - Foghat

"Rock n Roll Band" - Boston

"Take it Easy" or "Already Gone" - The Eagles

Anything by The Beach Boys (Specifically probably "Kokomo", "Sloop John B" or "Good Vibrations")

"Good Vibrations" - Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch

"Lifes Been Good so Far" - Joe Walsh

"Ring of Fire" - Johnny Cash

"Nothing but a Good Time" - Poison

"Judy in Disguise" - John Fred & His Playboy Band

"Searching for a Rainbow" - Marshall Tucker Band

"Since You Been Gone" - Rainbow

"It's a Living Thing" - Electric Light Orchestra

So what are some of your favorite tunes for cooking outdoors? Use the comments box to let us know! Who knows, maybe with enough responses we just might have ourselves the greatest playlist ever!
