Chill Out! We Got Space in the Freezer!

I'll be quite honest, my wife is on Tik-Tok and it drives me just a little crazy. When I get the ping of a notification and see it's a link, oh man, that blood pressure rises just a little bit further to the life insurance payout line. BUT, but. Every now and then she sends some gold, which happened a few weeks ago. She shared a video about someone reviewing their new upright freezer from Costco. Did she say freezer? And did she say Costco?! I'm in!

For those of you unaware, we (as a family) frequent our local Costco enough that our kids were made unofficial honorary employees with their own name badges.

The freezer is the Hamilton Beach Upright Freezer. It is 11 cubit feet, white and uses drawers from top to bottom. Immediately my wife was on the phone trying to track one down for us and we lucked out as soon our local store had them in-stock. Checked Saturday morning and there were about seven, one as a display. When I made it back Sunday afternoon with my step-dad and his truck, they were down to the last one in the box still. We snagged that bad-boy and got it over to our place.

Now we have two kids and can of course always use more storage space. What really appealed to us was the dimensions on the unit, as we only had two spots it could fit in our house (both in the laundry-room/pantry). One spot was between our washing machine and the water-heater, but would have required some modifications to the drain line for the water-heater-pan. The other spot was between our built-in shelving and a little vanity area. The latter was the preferred spot but we only had 23.5ish" between countertop edge and the side of the shelving. This unit is exactly 23.5ish" wide... and with a little loving force it fit like a charm! You'll see in the pictures below and don't judge us, we live like real humans not some Pinstagram false reality.

The other big appealing factor were the drawers inside the unit. This makes storing bagged/odd-shaped items a breeze! Ever try stacking bags of frozen veggies on top of each other without them avalanching out? With these drawers you can easily just dump them in without fear of falling out. Ever take a frozen juice concentrate to the foot? Not gonna happen with this unit. You can also remove the drawers and use just shelf space if needed.

Now we got into our unit for under $390.00 all said and done, but pricing may vary in different locations. Do a quick search for other upright freezers and you can be hitting close to $800+ and not be as nearly space-saving or convenient as this unit. Definitely worth a check at your local Costco if you find yourself needing some more freezer space. Now, where to source a half-cow from...
