Rubb'd Reviews: Kirkland BBQ Hardwood Pellets

Let's face it, everything is costing more nowadays. If not actual monetary cost increases, just the efforts that need to be taken to finish something. Seems like even the simplest task (like say getting a plumber out to your home) takes more time. That's why when I saw this product sitting on it's pallet at my local Costco, I was stoked. Kirkland BBQ Hardwood Pellets.

Like most anything with the Kirkland brand on it, you are expecting quality and value. For most anyone with a Costco membership, you almost rely on seeing that logo to save money while not comprising anything else. These pellets are designed to work with any standard wood-pellet smoker (Traeger, Masterbuilt, Green Mountain, Camp Chef, etc.). And at $12.99 (at my local store) for 40lbs, it's a beautiful value.

This blend includes Oak, Hickory, Maple and Cherry. Overall a great standard mix to go with on just about any dish. It is made in the USA, which is something I like. The pellets worked through my Traeger and (as expected) were of good quality.

Now listen, I am not going to compare these to the other manufacturer's out there. There are a ton of great products available and if you have one that you swear by, go for it! But if you are interested in trying out something new and savings some skrilla, give these a try!

I will note that the packaging was a little on the light side as I poked a hole through the bag while loading it. And as you can see I do not have claws for fingertips. That was a little disappointing, but just something to know before hand. Ultimately most people transfer their pellets into a different storage container as the goal is to limit air exposure and eliminate moisture exposure.

And listen, I know certain smoker companies mandate that you have to use their brand pellets in order to maintain any kind of warranty. But honestly, that's pretty cheese. Most pellet manufacturers abide by the same standards and are trying to produce better products than their competitors (thanks free market!) so any warranty issues should boil down to if the pellets used were stored properly or potentially tampered with. And maybe if that is such a concern about voiding a warranty, you should be looking at a different brand smoker.
